The revolution will not be motorized. Nope, when the oil's gone we're all gonna feel the burn... not only from global warming but also in our quads.
Mike really enjoys cycling... it just gives him a much further range than walking or even running. He prefers mountain biking but has sucumbed recently to his darkest lycra-clad roadie urges and even bought a trainer for it. He prefers wild rides in Northumberland or the North Yorks moors but his favourite trail centre spot for mountain biking is Kirroughtree, one of the quietest 7 Stanes sites in SW Scotland. Off-road, he rides a S-Works Stumpjumper FSR with all the bells and whistles ( - its an old one, alloy not carbon), he has a Felt Z70 for the road and recently got a 29 inch Gary Fisher X-caliber for Stateside meanderings. He dreams of riding an Ibis Mojo SL in Colorado and Utah.
He's off the bikes with his troublesome ankle at the moment, so he's goal-setting. He wants to ride the 334 mile GAP / ATA trails self supported from Pittsburgh PA to Washington DC before Claire leaves Pennsylvania in June. He has his eyes on Cranking The Shield, a 3 day 235km mountain bike stage race in Ontario. And Billy is urging him to do more downhill mountain biking - there's an old story here.
Claire commutes to work on her Trek hybrid when she's in Newcastle. She takes her Specialized Stumpjumper to the woods less than she should... but she's committed to "doing a course." She also has a Giant mountain bike which she can't bear to get rid of for sentimental reasons, even though it weighs more than all the other bikes on this page together.
